Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans

I am an absolute planner.  In everything I do.   Whether it be a holiday, a party, a weekend away or a trip to the shops – I plan.  So when things don’t pan out as I expect them to it throws me.

So when life threw the latest curve ball at me recently – a big one at that – It knocked me for six.  Maybe because of how close to my heart it was, or maybe because of the severity of it.  My Mum was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer at the end of October last year.  Needless to say I raced across to South Africa to be with her and spent the last few months of 2015 with my Mum and my munchkins in South Africa, and although we are lucky to still have my Mum with us, she continues to fight this dreaded disease.

My Mums diagnosis was a huge reminder to me to not take for granted that “tomorrow” is what I think it will be, nor what I’ve planned for it to be or what I am expecting it to be.  My wish for you and your families this year is for you to hold on to the famous Lennon quote from “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy),” and remember to enjoy every moment and every day you have with your loved ones:

“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.
